2007: Paulsboro at Glassboro

Only 5 times has neither appeared in playoffs!

Paulsboro is making their 26th appearance = 78.79% of the time

Glassboro is making their 23rd appearance (not counting 1974 "declared champion") = 69.7% of the time

They have both been in the playoffs 20 times = 60.6% of the time

Paulsboro is 16-4 in championship games

Glassboro is 5-8 in championship games + 1 championship in 1975 when they were "declared" champions because there were no other qualifiers in the system used that year.

Combined (counting this year), they have been in the finals 35 times which makes 53.03% of the finalists.

Combined, they have won (and will win - counting this year) 22 championships (23 counting 1974), which gives them 66 2/3 % of all on-the-field championships. Paulsboro currently has exactly 50% of all championships. This does not include Glassboro's "declared championship". If you add Woodbury's 5 championships (Woodbury is 5-2 in championship games and has appeared in the playoffs 15 times), then Gloucester County has all but 6 Championships - Burlington Twp. (2), Palmyra, Florence & Schalick (2) - for 81.25% which will increase to 81.82% this year.

Paulsboro is 7-1 against Glassboro in championship games

Paulsboro is 2-2 against Glassboro in semi-finals

It's a BORO thing - you wouldn't understand!

Let me know if I goofed!

Glassboro 20, Haddon Heights 14

Horrible game - too many penalties!

Glassboro vs Haddon Heights - Friday, November 9th 7:00 pm PLAYOFFS Round 1

Haddon Heights is 4-4 and made it to the playoffs with a win in their 8th game.

They were tied in power points and got in based on strength of schedule.

BORO's record agains Heifgts is 4-6-1 wiht all but one game occuring 1933 or earlier.

They last played in 2001 with BORO winning 26-6, also in Round 1 of the playoffs.

Haddon Heights' games this year:

beat Lindenwold 24-20

beat Collingswood 17-2

lost to Woodbury 18-0

lost to Paulsboro 35-7

lost to West Deptford 35-6

lost to Audubon 21-20 OT

beat Sterling 7-0

beat Haddon Twp. 30-0

All the teams that beat them made the playoffs.

None of the teams they beat made the playoffs.

I would like to see THE BORO surpass Paulsboro's and West Deptford's scoring margin against Haddon Heights and they should be able to do it.

Friday, November 02, 2007

Glassboro 33, Penns Grove 0

BORO had 466 yards of offense compared to just 77 for PG.
5 players scored TDs:
J. Breaker - 3 yd run + 2 TD passes
Tunstall - 7 yd reception = 3 extra point kicks
Whitaker - 38 yd recption
Davis - 19 yd run
C. James - 9 yd run
The tream looked strong and if they had avoided turnovers, the back-ups would have been in the game early in the second half if not sooner.

More later

Thursday, November 01, 2007

Glassboro vs Penns Grove - Friday November 2nd - 7:00 pm

Penns Grove is 7-1 (6-1 in conference) and seeks a tie for the Division Championship,

BORO is 22-6-3 against Penns Grove and has won last 10 games and 13 out of 14 since renweing the series in 1987 (no games in "89, '90, '91 and '92).

In the '50's BORO won 3, PG won 3 and there were 3 ties.

PG this year:

Penns Grove 14, Woodstown 7 - closest non-win for Woodstown

Gloucester 22, PG 21 - closest game for both teams

PG 37, Salem 20 - other than Pitman and Clayton, only time Salem scored more than 6

PG 20, Schalick 0 - PG's best game

PG 64, Pitman 0 - same score as Glassboro vs Pitman

PG 40, Clayton 0 - Glassboro beat Clayton by 54

PG 12, Overbrook 9 - lowest score aginst Overbrook and most points scored by Overbrook

Penns Grove has plenty of speed, but probably doesn't have enough defense to stop THE BORO.

I predict BORO 33, PG 14.

Sunday, October 28, 2007

I believe that 48 players played. 10 players scored!

Glassboro leads the series against Schalick 15-5, but Schalick has won 4 0f the last 5 including a 28-6 win last year.

Schalick is 4-1 this year:

Schalick 10, Gloucester 7 -last minute victory

Schalick 66, Clayton 8

Schalick 40, Pitman 7

Penns Grove 20, Schalick 0

Schalick 27, Woodstown 0

Schalick has a good defense, but the offense needs improvement.

Glassboro 37, Gloucester 7

Justin Breaker had a "break-out day" as a passer.

Justin Breaker passed 1-25 for 298 yds!

Ricky Tunstall had a 91 yard reception in the 3rd after scoring an early TD recption in the 1st.

Sunday, October 07, 2007

Glassboro at Gloucester: Preview: Saturday, Oct. 15th

Gloucester is 3-1.

Glassboro won last year 28-19 and in 2005 27-0 and 48-0 (playoffs).

Glassboro leads series 27-18-14. Gloucester last won in 2004 6-0 in playoffs after Glassboro won in the regular season 12-0.

Gloucester also beat Glassboro in the playoffs in 2001 and Glassboro won the regular seaon game the next week.

Gloucester won 8 out of 10 games from 1989 to 1998.

Gloucester in 2007:

beat Pitman 45-13

lost to (but outplayed) Schalick 10-7

beat Penns Grove 22-21

beat Woodstown 14-6

This will be the first real test for the BULLDOGS. They must score early and put Gloucester out of the game early. Gloucester always prepares well for Glassboro and they cannot be taken lightly.

Gloucester is led by senior RB Michael Dick, who is their top scorer. Senior QB Steve Goad has shown the ability to throw TD passes fequently to Junior WR Robert Filer. Another scorer is Junior RB Kyle Stewart. Senior TE Michael Becker is another potent weapon.

Saturday, October 06, 2007

Glassboro 42, Woodstown 0

Glassboro (4-0) 42, Woodstown (2-3) 0

Offense ran for 299 yards.

BORO scored on first play from scrimmage on a semmingly impossible catch and run by Tunstall.

Baxter had an 83 yard TD run.

Stephen Davis - 9 yard reception

Chris Baxter - 83 yard run

Thursday, October 04, 2007

Glassboro vs. Woodstown preview: Friday Oct. 5th 7:00

Glassboro beat Woodstown last year 34-8.

Glassboro leads the series 15-4-3 winning evry year since the series resumed in 2002. Woodstown last won in 1945. There was tie in 1946 and the series then ended until 2002.

Woodstown is 2-2 this year.

They lost to Penns Grove (2-1) 14-7.

They beat Pitman (0-4) 41-19.

They beat Lower Cape May (0-4) 21-6.

They lost to Gloucester (3-1) 14-6.

They won their final 4 games of 2006 and had hoped to improve. Their defense did a really good job on Penns Grove strong offense.

Saturday, September 29, 2007

Glassboro 34, Pennsville 13

Glassbor jumped out to an early 20-0 lead. Pennsvile then played hard but could only match THE DOGS the rest of the way. Glassboro scored 4 times on runs, once on a pass and once on an interception.

Scoring:

1st quarter:

Ralph Carr - 3 yd run

Corey James - 54 yard run

2nd quarter:

Roderick Tunstall - 21 yard reception

3rd quarter:

Roderick Tunstall - 29 yard interception return

4th quarter:

Ralph Carr - 25 yard run

My photos were too blurry, so I don't have much to offer.

Friday, September 28, 2007

Glassboro at Pennsville - preview

Pennsville won their first 2 games: 28-0 over Salem and 48-0 over Pitman.

They will show the BULLDOGS the strongest offense and defense to date, but probably lack the depth to stop THE BORO.

Ryan Karr (QB) is a solid player.

Glassboro leads the series 7-0 (all games weere played in this century)

Saturday, September 22, 2007

Glassboro 52, Salem 6

THE BORO scored first and held a 7-0 first quarter lead. They ran it up to 26-6 at the half as Salem scored on a kickoff return.

BULLDOGS came out on fire in the second half and ran it up to 40-6 before the second team came in and scored twice to make it a 55-6 final.

8 different players score one TD each:

Stephen Davis - 5 yd. run

Roderick Tunstall - 17 yd. reception

James Wilbern, Jr. - 25 yd. reception

Corey James - 1 yd. run

Ralph Carr, Jr. - 10 yd. run

Timothy Breaker - 4 yd reception (and it was a tough one) - way to go!

Loronday Gaines - 76 yd. run (which goes well with his 74 yarder the previous week) as the back-up RBs continue to impress!

Khahil Adams - 74 yd. run

Justin Breaker - 3 TD passes

Defense gave up no points as Salem's score was on a KO return. First team defense has given up no points in the first two games.

Tuesday, September 18, 2007

Glassboro at Salem: Preview: Saturday, Sept. 22nd

Salem lost to Pennsville 28-0.

Glassboro won 23-0 last year and 41-0 the year before + a playoff win of 21-0 the following week. Salem won 16-14 in 2005. Overall Glassboro leads the series 25-12-4.

Salem seems to be slumping as of late, but don't overlook them. They have won 7 times simce the series was renewed in 1987 (20 games).

Lamont Jackson Jr. is the QB and now has a full season under his belt. He threw 17 TD passes last year, so pass defense will be key for the Bulldogs. Alfred Coleman, Shaquilla Brooks and Lee Schofield will be his main targets along with newcomer Junior Derrick Parsley who some view as a Division 1 prospect. Glassboro was the only team to beat them by more than 10 points last year and they almost upset Clearview (9-1, Royal Division Champions) leading the Pioneers 22-10 early in the 4th. They had a 16 point lead on Schalick before losing 22-16, so with more experience their endurance may be better and I wouldn't judge them by the results of week #1.

Glassboro 61, Clayton 8

Glassboro sprinted out to a big early lead. TD on opening KO return, followed by a fumble recovery leading to a TD reception. 3 rushing TDs in the 1st quarter made the score 33-0 after the 1st. he starters ran it up to 45 -0 bfore handing over to the 2nd team for the last series of the first half. The back-ups took one play to 74 yds to make the score 53-0 at the half. After a safety caused by a bad snap on a punt, thebackups, including some 9th graders put together a time consuming drive for a final BORO TD. Clayton put together a drive (with some penalty help) to get on the scoreboard with less than a minute to go. Glassboro has trouble with extra points so look for a lot of going for "2" in the future.

Scoring:

Christopher Baxter - 3 TDs - 1 KO return + runs of 38 & 24

Stephen Davis - 2 TDs - runs of 8 & 3

Timothy Breaker - 1 TD - 3 yd reception

Ralph Carr - 1 TD - 16 yd. run

Loronday Gaines - 1 TD - 74 yd. run

Khahil Adams - 1 TD - 2 yd. run

Brandon Stephens - 2 points on extra point run

Roderick Tunstall - 3 points on 3 extra point kicks

Justin Breaker - 1 TD pass

+ one safety on a bad snap during Clayton punt attempt (ball crosses end line)

Clayton: Joe Lincoln - 1 yd. run + Brandon Wright run for 2 extra points

Sunday, September 09, 2007

Glassboro vs. Clayton preview: Friday Sept. 14th 7:00

Clayton comes to THE BORO with a new head coach, Ryan Caltabiano.

They have fewer players (31) than many teams, but at one time they had even fewer.

They have a lineman that is 275 which is bigger than THE BORO's largest (245).

6 seniors should lead the way as they look for their first win since Oct. 9th, 2004 against Pennsville.

Glassboro is 42-13-23 against the Clippers and last lost to the Clippers in 1994. The Clippers won 4 in a row in the '40's. Clayton dominated during the '40's with a 5-3-3 record against the BULLDOGS. The teams did not play from 1964-1984. Since 1985 Glassboro leads the series 20-2.

Clayton was in the playoffs in 1991 (they beat Glassboro that year 32-12), winning the semi-final against Gloucester and losing the final to Woodbury.

The Classic Division is interesting as Paulsboro and St. Joe's would become rivals. What a game that would be!!!!!!! The rest of the Divsion is weak except for occasionally Woodbury. Penns Grove and Lindenwold provide can be competitive, but not up to the level of the top two.

The Freedom Division has several teams that can occasionally come through. Glassboro, Schalick, Gloucester and Salem are not strange to winning Division titles. Gateway, Woodstown and Pennsville are definitely stronger than the bottom 3 of the Classic. Since everyone here but Gateway are already in the same division, only Gateway would have major schedule changes.

The Patriot Division could be very be interesting. There are no guarantees here.

The Royal Division has Deptford and West Deptford together. That will be a good rivalry for sure.

The National Division would match-up Delsea and Hammonton and Ocean City, each of whom have had some decent seasons. Kingsway can be good at times also and Clearview can be a tough competitor sometimes.

The American Division would provide a new focus for Williamstown - oput of the county and looking towars the shore, but they would no longer have to go undefeated to make the playoffs.

With 6 or 7 Division games, each team would have room to schedule old-time rivals, so Delsea and Williamstown + St. Joe's and Hammonton + Gloucester and Gloucester Catholic, for example, could still maintain their T-Day games.
