OUCH!

Paulsboro's best game in 3 yaears and Glassboro's worst game in 3 years

BORO needs to spread the ball around to more backs next year like they did in 2007 and 2008.

2009 - Glassboro 14, Kingsway 13

With some key players resting, Glassboro almost let this one get away.

Missed extra point was the key to the win.

Kingsway has a huge line and gave our line a big test. Hopefully this was be a good game for preparing for playoffs.

2009 - Penns Grove 14, Glassboro 12

PG had a great game plan and BORO mistakes cost us the game.

Too many injuries!

Learn form this and move on to revenge in the playoffs!!

But don't look ahead and just go one game at a time - the target is still on your back!

2009 - Glassboro 29, Cumberland 7

More photos on "BORO70" Facebook page.

Scoreless first quarter as Cumberland atarted out with a strong drive ending with a missed FG. Then the BORO defense came alive although Cumberland still had some good plays.

PJ James ran for a lot of yards - I will post stats later.

PLAYERS: pay attention!!!!!! Play one game at a time. Parents were telling me that you are already thinking about Kingsway. This is foolishness!!! ONE GAME at a time please. You have a target on your back. Everyone wants to end the streak. Every game is a Super Bowl until the streak ends (hopefully not in my lifetime). Think about Gloucester and no one else. Gloucester has destroyed our dreams before - playoffs in 2004, 2001, 1995 plus they were our only divsion loss in 1998 and 1997! You have two weeks to think about nothing but Gloucester! Their fans will harass you and call you names and cheer if you get injured! You must be prepared. They have scouted all of our games. Their line will be well trained and they will save some tricks just for this game. Teams that don't like us despise Gloucester more. They know how to get to you. You cannot let up just because of what happened to them at Schalick. They were looking ahead to us.

2009 - Game #3 preview: Glassboro vs Cumberland: Friday Sept. 25th - 7:00 pm - home

Cumberland is slumping after having a decent season last year when they made it to the Group 3 playoffs only to lose to Group runner-up Hammonton. All four loses were to powerful teams: Tri-County Royal champion Williamstown, Group 2 Champion Delsea, Non-Public palyoff contender and perhaps the best Non-Public in South Jersey last year, Gloucester Catholic, and Hammonton.

In 2007, Cumberland was 7-3, losing to Williamstown, Clearview and Shawnee (which won Group 3 in 2007 & 2008).

In 2006, they were 1-9 and are in danger of going back to that record this year.

They have lost this year to powerful Delsea 35-0 and a possibly improved highland team 17-3. The loss to highland is very revealing and indicative of a downturn in the program, but they are a Group 3 school and the Bulldogs must not take them lightly.

Although the power points system has changed and beating a team from a bigger group does not gain you as many points, it is still very important that the Dogs beat their 2 Group 3 and 1 Group 2 opponents. (They also have another Group 2 opponent after the playoffs cut-off.) Keeping power points in mind, we would like for Cumberalnd to do better against other opponents. The loss to Highland cost us an anticipated point. At this point only Deptford looks a possible victory and that is not guaranteed.

Looking at power points:

You get 6 points for a win + one point for the Group number of the opponent (Group 3 Cumberland will give us 6 for the win and 3 for the group for 9 points)

You get 3 points for each win by a team you defeated (so if Cumberland does not win a game, we gain 0 for this criteria.

So:

Salem, Schalick, PG, PV, Woodstown and Gloucester have 11 games against each other which (assuming that the Bulldogs win) yields (5 x 6) + (11 x 3) for 63 points.

These teams have 12 games against Pitman, Clayton and Wildwood, which assuming they all win those games, would give us (12 x 3) 36 points which increses the total to 99 points.

A minimum of 9 points for beating Cumberlannd would then give us 108 points

Kingsway gives us a minimum of 12 as they already have one win which now gives us 120
points.

PG beat Clearview and PV beat Deptford so 6 more points gives us 126.

For more points, we need Kingsway to win some games - most likely against Cumberland and Deptford. We need Gloucester to beat Highland (tough call at this point). Pennsville plays Middle Twp. and they should win. PG plays Buena and it is a tough call but Buena won last year.

So, I anticipate at least 3 wins from those match-ups for 9 more points for a total of 135.

Now what about Paulsboro?

8 wins against 6 Group 1 teams and 2 Group 2 teams, gives them (8 x 6) + (6 x 1) + (2 x 2) = 58.

Their opponents play each other 16 times for (3 x 16) 48 more points = 106.

Their opponents have 12 games aginst West Deptford and Haddonfield which they should not win.

Their opponents have 6 games against Overbrook which they should win for (6 x 3) 18 more points = 124 total for Paulsboro.

If I goofed in these calculations, respond by hitting "comments" at the bottom of this post.

With an 11 point anticipated advantage, Glassboro could lose to Cumberland (and lose 9 points), but loses to other teams could hurt.

2009 - Game #2: Glassboro 38, Schalick 0

Glassboro extended their longest win streak in history to 26 in a row.

Although Schalick was frequently in BORO territory, they could not score against the aggressive Bulldog defense.

PJ James had 3 TDs - two on offense and one on defense.

Stephen Clement had a 62 yd. TD reception from Brandon Stephens (Stephens to Stephen).

Corey Clement scored a TD for the second game in a row with a 19 yd. run.

Lamont Smith scored a TD for the second game in a row with a 49 yd, interception return giving the defense 2 interception returns for TDs in the game.

Some photos coming soon!

PJ James has established himself as the primary runner with 82 yds. on 7 carries.

Brandon Stephens passed 6 out 8 for 99 yds.

I would like to see some improvement in the push of the offensive line and some better DB coverage. Otherwise I am very happy with this team. A little more speed getting down field on kickoffs would also be nice.

Some photos coming soon! Go to Facebook and search for BORO70 and you will find photos.

2009 - Game #1: Glassboro 35, Salem 12

Go to Facebook and search for BORO70 and you will find more photos.
Salem played better than in past couple of years. Defense made some nice plays and two excellent passr eceptions gave them their two scores.

BORO scored first on a 56 yard run by PJ James for 17-0 lead at the end of the 1st.

A one yard run by QB Brandon Stephens and a 14 yd. reception by Lamont Smith gave the Bulldogs a 21 -0 lead before Salem scored on a 68 yd. reception from Dylan Rush to Shaquille Brooks to go in at the half with a 21-6 lead for the BORO.

Freshman Corey Clement (who also does the kicking) showed that the BORO keeps bringing up young RBs with a 13 yd. TD run in the third while Salem answered back with another TD reception from Rush to Brooks, this time for 82 yds. At the end of the third, BORO led 28-12.

BORO finished out the scoring in the 4th with a run from the dependable Kahil Adams for a 6 yd. TD.
