Glassboro at Gloucester: Preview: Saturday, Oct. 15th

Gloucester is 3-1.

Glassboro won last year 28-19 and in 2005 27-0 and 48-0 (playoffs).

Glassboro leads series 27-18-14. Gloucester last won in 2004 6-0 in playoffs after Glassboro won in the regular season 12-0.

Gloucester also beat Glassboro in the playoffs in 2001 and Glassboro won the regular seaon game the next week.

Gloucester won 8 out of 10 games from 1989 to 1998.

Gloucester in 2007:

beat Pitman 45-13

lost to (but outplayed) Schalick 10-7

beat Penns Grove 22-21

beat Woodstown 14-6

This will be the first real test for the BULLDOGS. They must score early and put Gloucester out of the game early. Gloucester always prepares well for Glassboro and they cannot be taken lightly.

Gloucester is led by senior RB Michael Dick, who is their top scorer. Senior QB Steve Goad has shown the ability to throw TD passes fequently to Junior WR Robert Filer. Another scorer is Junior RB Kyle Stewart. Senior TE Michael Becker is another potent weapon.

2nd quarter:

Glassboro at Pennsville - preview

Pennsville won their first 2 games: 28-0 over Salem and 48-0 over Pitman.

They will show the BULLDOGS the strongest offense and defense to date, but probably lack the depth to stop THE BORO.

Ryan Karr (QB) is a solid player.

Glassboro leads the series 7-0 (all games weere played in this century)

Saturday, September 22, 2007

Glassboro 52, Salem 6

THE BORO scored first and held a 7-0 first quarter lead. They ran it up to 26-6 at the half as Salem scored on a kickoff return.

BULLDOGS came out on fire in the second half and ran it up to 40-6 before the second team came in and scored twice to make it a 55-6 final.

8 different players score one TD each:

Stephen Davis - 5 yd. run

Roderick Tunstall - 17 yd. reception

James Wilbern, Jr. - 25 yd. reception

Corey James - 1 yd. run

Ralph Carr, Jr. - 10 yd. run

Timothy Breaker - 4 yd reception (and it was a tough one) - way to go!

Loronday Gaines - 76 yd. run (which goes well with his 74 yarder the previous week) as the back-up RBs continue to impress!

Khahil Adams - 74 yd. run

Justin Breaker - 3 TD passes

Defense gave up no points as Salem's score was on a KO return. First team defense has given up no points in the first two games.

Tuesday, September 18, 2007

Glassboro at Salem: Preview: Saturday, Sept. 22nd

Salem lost to Pennsville 28-0.

Glassboro won 23-0 last year and 41-0 the year before + a playoff win of 21-0 the following week. Salem won 16-14 in 2005. Overall Glassboro leads the series 25-12-4.

Salem seems to be slumping as of late, but don't overlook them. They have won 7 times simce the series was renewed in 1987 (20 games).

Lamont Jackson Jr. is the QB and now has a full season under his belt. He threw 17 TD passes last year, so pass defense will be key for the Bulldogs. Alfred Coleman, Shaquilla Brooks and Lee Schofield will be his main targets along with newcomer Junior Derrick Parsley who some view as a Division 1 prospect. Glassboro was the only team to beat them by more than 10 points last year and they almost upset Clearview (9-1, Royal Division Champions) leading the Pioneers 22-10 early in the 4th. They had a 16 point lead on Schalick before losing 22-16, so with more experience their endurance may be better and I wouldn't judge them by the results of week #1.

Glassboro 61, Clayton 8

Glassboro sprinted out to a big early lead. TD on opening KO return, followed by a fumble recovery leading to a TD reception. 3 rushing TDs in the 1st quarter made the score 33-0 after the 1st. he starters ran it up to 45 -0 bfore handing over to the 2nd team for the last series of the first half. The back-ups took one play to 74 yds to make the score 53-0 at the half. After a safety caused by a bad snap on a punt, thebackups, including some 9th graders put together a time consuming drive for a final BORO TD. Clayton put together a drive (with some penalty help) to get on the scoreboard with less than a minute to go. Glassboro has trouble with extra points so look for a lot of going for "2" in the future.

Scoring:

Christopher Baxter - 3 TDs - 1 KO return + runs of 38 & 24

Stephen Davis - 2 TDs - runs of 8 & 3

Timothy Breaker - 1 TD - 3 yd reception

Ralph Carr - 1 TD - 16 yd. run

Loronday Gaines - 1 TD - 74 yd. run

Khahil Adams - 1 TD - 2 yd. run

Brandon Stephens - 2 points on extra point run

Roderick Tunstall - 3 points on 3 extra point kicks

Justin Breaker - 1 TD pass

+ one safety on a bad snap during Clayton punt attempt (ball crosses end line)

Clayton: Joe Lincoln - 1 yd. run + Brandon Wright run for 2 extra points

Glassboro vs. Clayton preview: Friday Sept. 14th 7:00

Clayton comes to THE BORO with a new head coach, Ryan Caltabiano.

They have fewer players (31) than many teams, but at one time they had even fewer.

They have a lineman that is 275 which is bigger than THE BORO's largest (245).

6 seniors should lead the way as they look for their first win since Oct. 9th, 2004 against Pennsville.

Glassboro is 42-13-23 against the Clippers and last lost to the Clippers in 1994. The Clippers won 4 in a row in the '40's. Clayton dominated during the '40's with a 5-3-3 record against the BULLDOGS. The teams did not play from 1964-1984. Since 1985 Glassboro leads the series 20-2.

Clayton was in the playoffs in 1991 (they beat Glassboro that year 32-12), winning the semi-final against Gloucester and losing the final to Woodbury.

The Classic Division is interesting as Paulsboro and St. Joe's would become rivals. What a game that would be!!!!!!! The rest of the Divsion is weak except for occasionally Woodbury. Penns Grove and Lindenwold provide can be competitive, but not up to the level of the top two.

The Freedom Division has several teams that can occasionally come through. Glassboro, Schalick, Gloucester and Salem are not strange to winning Division titles. Gateway, Woodstown and Pennsville are definitely stronger than the bottom 3 of the Classic. Since everyone here but Gateway are already in the same division, only Gateway would have major schedule changes.

The Patriot Division could be very be interesting. There are no guarantees here.

The Royal Division has Deptford and West Deptford together. That will be a good rivalry for sure.

The National Division would match-up Delsea and Hammonton and Ocean City, each of whom have had some decent seasons. Kingsway can be good at times also and Clearview can be a tough competitor sometimes.

The American Division would provide a new focus for Williamstown - oput of the county and looking towars the shore, but they would no longer have to go undefeated to make the playoffs.

With 6 or 7 Division games, each team would have room to schedule old-time rivals, so Delsea and Williamstown + St. Joe's and Hammonton + Gloucester and Gloucester Catholic, for example, could still maintain their T-Day games.

Paulsboro 20, Glassboro 0

Glassboro played a tough first half as the first half ended 0-0.

Paulsboro took control late in the game after a 62 yd run from the 2 yd line.

Akinmoju caught 4 passes for a total of 45 (for 677 yds) for the year which breaks Terrence Holmes season record of 43 back in 2000. I remember when he was a sophomore and at a scrimmage I predicted that he would be really good. No one else thought so. He proved me right.

Hagerty finished the season with 1275 yds passing and 3339 yds for his career with 47 TDs.

I predicted an 8-3 season and they ended up 9-3. The extra win was nice as it put them in the finals.

Glassboro 14, Penns Grove 7 - Playoffs - Round 2

Penns Grove played a tough game against THE BORO.

Gadson had a 1 yd. scoring run after a 75 yd drive.

Whitaker had a 38 yd. TD reception to cap a nine play 99 yd drive. Whitaker also had a 43 or 44 yd reception.

Haggerty was 5-10 passing for 104 yds. He has now pased for 3,107 yds in his career at GHS. He also had a key 3rd down run up the middle for a first down.

Bateman had a key sack that caused a fumble - recovered by Longley - with slightly 1:07 left to play that sealed the game.

Carr proved the disbelievers wrong when he came back after the supposibly season ending injury. Although he only played on defense, he played OUTSTANDING defense with a team leading 12 tackles. Without him the outcome may have easily been different.

The DOGS must work on their rushing defense as Haywood ran for 112 yds. The line needs to improve its performance as they will be facing 2 good lines in the final 2 games.

The BULLDOGS must be ready for the re-match in the finals in order to avenge last year's loss to Paulsboro. T-Day game against Deptford will be very tough also.

Glassboro's history in the Finals:

1975: defeated Palmyra
1980: lost to Paulsboro
1981: defeated Bordentown
1983: defeated Audubon
1984: lost to Paulsboro
1987: defeated Paulsboro

This sets up a rematch at home against Penns Grove who upset powerful Schalick 35-34 in 2 OTs.

Friday, October 27, 2006

Glassboro 54, Pitman 6

Most of my photos came out blurry in the night light and rain.

Davis scores the first 3 TDs and has a big running evening, rushing for 188 yds on just 5 carries! He had 204 yds. entering the contest. It is his turn to step up and be the man.

Akinmoju has a TD reception. It was Hagerty's 12th TD pass of the season.

Gadson had a TD run.

BORO led 33-6 at the half.

James, Tunstall and Wiburn each pick up a 2nd half TD.

Stockl kicks for 3 extra points and Harris runs for a two-pointer.

Schalick 28, Glassboro 6 10/21/06

Photo is TD catch by Akinmoju.

Schalick totally dominated the game in all aspects.

THE BORO was held to 220 yds of offense:

Hagerty passed 12-22-1 for 129 yds.

Akinmoju - 9 receptions for 93 yds and a TD.

BORO surrendered 155 passing yds. andaloowed Schalick to complete 2/3rds of their passes - must work on this!!

BORO allowed Schalick to go 5-5 on 4th down conversions including a 4th and 26 at the Bulldog 32 that resulted in a TD reception.

BORO allowed Badger to gain 130 yds rushing and he had a team high 10 tackles.

Glassboro 28, Gloucester 19 - 10/13/06

Interesting video on NBC10:

There was a nice article in Thursdays (10/12/06) Courier Post about BORO players.

Glassboro 28, Gloucester 19

1st quarter: 7-7 BORO scored first and Gloucester came right back to tie

2nd quarter: 14-7 BORO scored once, but by no means was shutting down Gloucester's offense. A big stop on 4th and 1 at around the 15 was very big. After that THE BORO then had a great drive for 85 yds. to take the lead.

3rd quarter: Gloucester scores but misses extra point. BORO comes back to take the crucial 8 point lead

4th quarter: BORO scores to make it 28-13. Gloucester scores but goes for 2 and fails and thus put themselves in a jam. On-side kick fails and BORO with good field position eats up some clock and by the time Gloucester regains possesion deep in thier own territory, it was too late.

Carr ran 22 times for over 160 yds and had the big 3rd quarter 22 yd. TD catch. When he was able to break past then line, he put his head down well and drove the defense back. Very tough!

Gadson, Bateman and Davis all had TDs.

Stockl was perfect on the extra points.

Offense was steady - scoring once in each quarter.

Hagerty had 2 TD passes.

Rowan Radio did a good job (at least on the parts I was able to listen to).

Saturday, October 07, 2006

Glassboro 34, Woodstown 8 - 10/06/09

BORO win #496!

The score was 28-0 at the half and 34-0 before Woodstown scored. BORO had a fumble in the end zone or they would have scored one more.

Akinmoju had a big night, scoring 3 TDs. He had 5 receptions for 84 yds.

Carr ran 14 times for 132 yds.

Hagerty passed for 120 yds (7-11-0) and ran for a TD.

Davis also ran for a TD.

O-line is still inconsistent and the pass defense showed its first vunerability. A couple of things to work on as the competition gets tougher.

Glassboro 35, Pennsville 13 - 09/29/06

A slightly blurring photo because they just run too fast: A pass caught at the one yard line.

Pennsville came out strong and almost scored first as they were stopped at the one. They had attempted a FG from around the 3 and missed, but a penalty gave them another chance and the BULLDOG D stepped up and stopped them. Rowan radio goofed and said that Pennsville had the ball on the one, when the ball had been turned over on downs. I missed most of the broadcast due to too much (nah - never too much) crowd noise near me.

First Bulldog score was just before the end of the half and that took the wind out of the Eagles' sails.

Score was 28- 0 early in the 4th when The Ville finally scored.

Pennsville has nothing to be ashamed about. They just need to learn how to play the big game. They have some very good players. Those who may criticize them for this loss do not know what they are talking about.

BORO line was being pushed around early, but they got it together to run the score up to 28 before Pennsville started moving the ball again to score twice. The line (as in most years) needs to continue to improve game-by-game.

Carr was outstanding on defense as was James.

Still too many dropped passes (including one in the end zone), but the passing game in the second half made a big difference and Akinmoju (6 catches for 74 yds.) had 2 TD catches. Gadson ran for 90 yards and 2 TDs and Hagerty (12 of 19 passing for 201 yds.) scored also. This team has a well balanced attack. You cannot just focus on one or two players. There are so many weapons.

I had a great conversation with an old-timer (related to a current player) who played with Aveni back in the '50's . He was very impressed with a run by Davis.

One very important player collapsed on the side-line with 35.7 seconds left and they ended the game with no further plays. Our prayers are with him for a full recovery. This puts it all into perspective. The game is not about winning and losing - it is about the kids. Nothing else matters but this young man's health right now.

Glassboro 23, Salem 0 - 09/22/06

Defense was outstanding once again.

Too many dropped passes, fumbles and penalties kept the offense from scoring more.

O-Line still needs some work.

Scoring was spread around once again.

Glassboro 41, Clayton 0 - 09/16/06

THE BORO dominated the game as usual and spread the scoring around.

The line could improve.

There was one blocked punt and a sack of the punter deep in Clayton territory which led to 2 TDs.

The defense was outstanding!!!!!

This is a photo from the Deptford game in 2001 which THE BORO won 19-13.
