2009 - Glassboro 29, Cumberland 7

More photos on "BORO70" Facebook page.

Scoreless first quarter as Cumberland atarted out with a strong drive ending with a missed FG. Then the BORO defense came alive although Cumberland still had some good plays.

PJ James ran for a lot of yards - I will post stats later.

PLAYERS: pay attention!!!!!! Play one game at a time. Parents were telling me that you are already thinking about Kingsway. This is foolishness!!! ONE GAME at a time please. You have a target on your back. Everyone wants to end the streak. Every game is a Super Bowl until the streak ends (hopefully not in my lifetime). Think about Gloucester and no one else. Gloucester has destroyed our dreams before - playoffs in 2004, 2001, 1995 plus they were our only divsion loss in 1998 and 1997! You have two weeks to think about nothing but Gloucester! Their fans will harass you and call you names and cheer if you get injured! You must be prepared. They have scouted all of our games. Their line will be well trained and they will save some tricks just for this game. Teams that don't like us despise Gloucester more. They know how to get to you. You cannot let up just because of what happened to them at Schalick. They were looking ahead to us.

2009 - Game #3 preview: Glassboro vs Cumberland: Friday Sept. 25th - 7:00 pm - home

Cumberland is slumping after having a decent season last year when they made it to the Group 3 playoffs only to lose to Group runner-up Hammonton. All four loses were to powerful teams: Tri-County Royal champion Williamstown, Group 2 Champion Delsea, Non-Public palyoff contender and perhaps the best Non-Public in South Jersey last year, Gloucester Catholic, and Hammonton.

In 2007, Cumberland was 7-3, losing to Williamstown, Clearview and Shawnee (which won Group 3 in 2007 & 2008).

In 2006, they were 1-9 and are in danger of going back to that record this year.

They have lost this year to powerful Delsea 35-0 and a possibly improved highland team 17-3. The loss to highland is very revealing and indicative of a downturn in the program, but they are a Group 3 school and the Bulldogs must not take them lightly.

Although the power points system has changed and beating a team from a bigger group does not gain you as many points, it is still very important that the Dogs beat their 2 Group 3 and 1 Group 2 opponents. (They also have another Group 2 opponent after the playoffs cut-off.) Keeping power points in mind, we would like for Cumberalnd to do better against other opponents. The loss to Highland cost us an anticipated point. At this point only Deptford looks a possible victory and that is not guaranteed.

Looking at power points:

You get 6 points for a win + one point for the Group number of the opponent (Group 3 Cumberland will give us 6 for the win and 3 for the group for 9 points)

You get 3 points for each win by a team you defeated (so if Cumberland does not win a game, we gain 0 for this criteria.

So:

Salem, Schalick, PG, PV, Woodstown and Gloucester have 11 games against each other which (assuming that the Bulldogs win) yields (5 x 6) + (11 x 3) for 63 points.

These teams have 12 games against Pitman, Clayton and Wildwood, which assuming they all win those games, would give us (12 x 3) 36 points which increses the total to 99 points.

A minimum of 9 points for beating Cumberlannd would then give us 108 points

Kingsway gives us a minimum of 12 as they already have one win which now gives us 120
points.

PG beat Clearview and PV beat Deptford so 6 more points gives us 126.

For more points, we need Kingsway to win some games - most likely against Cumberland and Deptford. We need Gloucester to beat Highland (tough call at this point). Pennsville plays Middle Twp. and they should win. PG plays Buena and it is a tough call but Buena won last year.

So, I anticipate at least 3 wins from those match-ups for 9 more points for a total of 135.

Now what about Paulsboro?

8 wins against 6 Group 1 teams and 2 Group 2 teams, gives them (8 x 6) + (6 x 1) + (2 x 2) = 58.

Their opponents play each other 16 times for (3 x 16) 48 more points = 106.

Their opponents have 12 games aginst West Deptford and Haddonfield which they should not win.

Their opponents have 6 games against Overbrook which they should win for (6 x 3) 18 more points = 124 total for Paulsboro.

If I goofed in these calculations, respond by hitting "comments" at the bottom of this post.

With an 11 point anticipated advantage, Glassboro could lose to Cumberland (and lose 9 points), but loses to other teams could hurt.

2009 - Game #2: Glassboro 38, Schalick 0

Glassboro extended their longest win streak in history to 26 in a row.

Although Schalick was frequently in BORO territory, they could not score against the aggressive Bulldog defense.

PJ James had 3 TDs - two on offense and one on defense.

Stephen Clement had a 62 yd. TD reception from Brandon Stephens (Stephens to Stephen).

Corey Clement scored a TD for the second game in a row with a 19 yd. run.

Lamont Smith scored a TD for the second game in a row with a 49 yd, interception return giving the defense 2 interception returns for TDs in the game.

Some photos coming soon!

PJ James has established himself as the primary runner with 82 yds. on 7 carries.

Brandon Stephens passed 6 out 8 for 99 yds.

I would like to see some improvement in the push of the offensive line and some better DB coverage. Otherwise I am very happy with this team. A little more speed getting down field on kickoffs would also be nice.

Some photos coming soon! Go to Facebook and search for BORO70 and you will find photos.

2009 - Game #1: Glassboro 35, Salem 12

Go to Facebook and search for BORO70 and you will find more photos.
Salem played better than in past couple of years. Defense made some nice plays and two excellent passr eceptions gave them their two scores.

BORO scored first on a 56 yard run by PJ James for 17-0 lead at the end of the 1st.

A one yard run by QB Brandon Stephens and a 14 yd. reception by Lamont Smith gave the Bulldogs a 21 -0 lead before Salem scored on a 68 yd. reception from Dylan Rush to Shaquille Brooks to go in at the half with a 21-6 lead for the BORO.

Freshman Corey Clement (who also does the kicking) showed that the BORO keeps bringing up young RBs with a 13 yd. TD run in the third while Salem answered back with another TD reception from Rush to Brooks, this time for 82 yds. At the end of the third, BORO led 28-12.

BORO finished out the scoring in the 4th with a run from the dependable Kahil Adams for a 6 yd. TD.

2008: Playoffs - Round 2 Preview

BORO vs BORO - Saturday at 1:00 at Paulsboro

Both teams will be facing their toughest opponent so far this year.

Paulsboro has a diverse offense and more than one "go to" players.

Paulsboro scouts look for the opponent's defensive linemen that they feel they can run at. They look for guys would they think stand up too much and don't get low. You must beat them on the line! You must get low!

They will pass to backs and tight ends as well as the wide receivers. They may try to send 2 recievers to the same zone to confuse the defense. People say that they are not a good passing team this year, but I think that they just haven't needed to that much.

But stopping the run will be the key to the game. Watch for a lot of option plays as the QB can run well and is capable of playing almost any position on the field.

Take the best players form PG and Gloucester and then you are fielding a Paulsboro team and they will play like a team as they want this game bad. They have placed a target on our back since last December. Thye will come up with something unique just for this game.

Thye are always good on Special Teams. They have a great kicking coach and have shown in the past that they make FGs in any weather (and it will be a cold one). Good blocking to set up good kick returns is a must.

2008 - Game #6 - Glassboro vs Gloucester

Glassboro 35, Gloucester 13

Game was closer than the final score as BORO played big late in the game.

21-7 at the half and then the lions closed the gap to 21-13.

Fresh legs helped the Dogs as the coach did a good job bringing players in and out.

Lions are a good team!

BORO showed that they will not let a team come in and take them down. Gloucester was ready for this game. BORO is a target for every team and every team will put a big X on their calendar for when they play us. Pennsville, Schalick, Gloucester and even Salem each tried to make a game of it and then all of a sudden THE BORO woke up and put down a big margin. PG will do the same. They will come in next week believing in themselves. We can't get too cocky. We have to play our game and just wait for the speed and depth to take over. The depth and spped was the difference this week. Fresh legs late in the game and unbelivable depth of speed.

Gloucester played well. They played aggressive defense. They created some nice holes for Hans. Some nice size on their line. But as the game wears on, the team that can shuffle players in and out will be fresh and ready to go.

Salem: 14-0 at the half and 26 points in the third.

Pennsville: 6-6 after the first and 29 points in the 2nd.

Schalick: 7-0 at the half and then 26 second half points.

Gloucester: 21-13 at the end of the third and then a quick 14 points in the 4th.

Obviously Gloucester hung in there the longest and they deserve credit for that.

Thank you Gloucester for giving us a game and letting the starters get a whole game.

BORO: Brown 71 kickoff return for TD (Dobson kick)

BORO: Gaines 26 pass reception for TD from Breaker (pass failed)

Gloucester: Filer 41 pass reception for TD from Darrow (King kick)

BORO: Tunstall 56 pass reception for TD from Breaker (Gadson pass from Breaker)

Gloucester: Hans 29 pass reception for TD from Darrow (kick failed)

BORO: Ebert 58 yd interception return for TD (Dobson kick)

BORO: Brown 75 pass reception for TD from Breaker (Dobson kick)

2008 - Game #5 - Glassboro at Schalick

Glassboro 33, Schalick 0

7-0 at the half

too many penalties!

scoring:

Tunstall 16 yd pass reception from Breaker (Dobson kick)

Gadson 10 yd pass reception from Breaker (Dobson kick)

Baxter 58 yd run (kick failed)

Baxter 1 yd run (Dobson kick)

James 34 yd run (kick failed)

I do not have stats to post and if I did they would be meaningless for a team that has no one star. On any given play, anyone could have taken the ball. Thus many players would have bigger stats if they played for other teams.

2008 - Game #4 - Wildwood at Glassboro

Give Wildwood credit for showing up. They probably will be more prepared for the tough challenges in life.

34-0 after the first

54-0 at the half

60-0 on last play of third

Wildwood has more players than Clayton about 23 compared to about 16, but Clayton seems to have more skill.

Glassboro 207, opponents 12 - Thankful for the mercy rule.

Davis 60 yd TD run (Dobson kick)

Tunstall 18 yd TD pass reception from Breaker (Dobson kick)

Davis 26 yd fumble return for TD (Dobson kick)

Bell 18 yd TD run (kick failed)

Tunstall 45 yd interception return for TD (Dobson kick)

Tunstall 50 yd punt return for TD (kick failed)

Gaines 72 yd TD run (Dobson kick)

Baxter 5 yd TD run (Dobson kick)

2008 - Game #3 - Glassboro at Clayton

Glassboro 51, Clayton 0

35 point mercy rule before end of 1st.

3 QBs played - in fact I would assume that everyone played.

Mercy rule should be changed, so that if the the losing team is in the red zone, the half cannot end until they run out of downs.

These teams should not be playing each other.

Scoring:

Davis 30 yd run (Dobson kick)

Breaker 3 yd run (Dobson kick)

Green 17 yd interception for TD (Dobson kick)

Tunstall 15 yd run (Dobson kick)

Baxter 23 yd run (Dobson kick)

Willis 7 yd run (Clement run)

2008 - Game #2 - Glassboro at Pennsville

Glassboro 48, Pennsville 12

BORO started out slow and it was 6-6 before they cranked it up.

Pennsville's 1st team scored against the second team to make it 42-12 before back-up RB Khahil Adams, whom I talked about last week scored the final TD.

Pennsville has a good passing game and the potential to possibly be a playoff team with 4 or 5 wins at the cutoff.

BORO has to try to be more enthused when playing the lesser competition. In both of the first two games, they started out sluggish. Of course, the opposition will always be up for the game as BORO has a target on our backs and nobody wants us to win but us.

Scoring:

BORO: Tunstall 18 yd pass reception from Breaker (kick failed)

Pennsville: Karr 4 yd pass reception from Emmons (kick failed)

BORO: Gaines 34 yd run (Morrone pass from Breaker)

BORO: Bell 51 yd run (kick failed)

BORO: Baxter 19 yd run (Baxter pass from Breaker)

BORO: Tunstall 31 pass reception from Breaker (Dobson kick)

BORO: Davis 40 yd run (Dobson kick)

Pennsville: Karr 13 pass from Emmons (run failed)

BORO; Adams 5 run (run failed)

2008 - Game #1 - Salem at Glassboro

Glassboro 48, Salem 0

BORO started out sluuggish but poured it on in the 3rd.

BORO shows lots of speed, but still needs to work on the line play and penalties.

Salem did well the few times they ran up the middle, but ran too much east/west. Most defenses have too much pursuit for that kind of play calling. I think Salem could do better. They suffered a few injuries.

Just like last year, a little back-up RB (junior) named Khalil Adams showed some speed when he broke through in the 4th. The depth of speed is amazing.

Loronday Gaines had a very nice run also.

The James brothers (sophs) are also very quick.

3 QBs played: senior, junior, soph

Get rid of the penalties and Glassboro scores at least 3 more times.

Scoring:James - blocked punt return (7yds) for TD (Dobson kick)

Breaker 5 yd TD run (Dobson kick)

Davis 14 yd interception return for TD (kick failed)

Davis 28 yd TD run (Dobson kick)

Breaker 52 yd punt return for TD (Dobson kick)

Gaines 18 yd Td run (pass failed)

Burt 16 yd TD run (Clements run)

2007: Paulsboro at Glassboro

Only 5 times has neither appeared in playoffs!

Paulsboro is making their 26th appearance = 78.79% of the time

Glassboro is making their 23rd appearance (not counting 1974 "declared champion") = 69.7% of the time

They have both been in the playoffs 20 times = 60.6% of the time

Paulsboro is 16-4 in championship games

Glassboro is 5-8 in championship games + 1 championship in 1975 when they were "declared" champions because there were no other qualifiers in the system used that year.

Combined (counting this year), they have been in the finals 35 times which makes 53.03% of the finalists.

Combined, they have won (and will win - counting this year) 22 championships (23 counting 1974), which gives them 66 2/3 % of all on-the-field championships. Paulsboro currently has exactly 50% of all championships. This does not include Glassboro's "declared championship". If you add Woodbury's 5 championships (Woodbury is 5-2 in championship games and has appeared in the playoffs 15 times), then Gloucester County has all but 6 Championships - Burlington Twp. (2), Palmyra, Florence & Schalick (2) - for 81.25% which will increase to 81.82% this year.

Paulsboro is 7-1 against Glassboro in championship games

Paulsboro is 2-2 against Glassboro in semi-finals

It's a BORO thing - you wouldn't understand!

Let me know if I goofed!

Glassboro vs Haddon Heights - Friday, November 9th 7:00 pm PLAYOFFS Round 1

Haddon Heights is 4-4 and made it to the playoffs with a win in their 8th game.

They were tied in power points and got in based on strength of schedule.

BORO's record agains Heifgts is 4-6-1 wiht all but one game occuring 1933 or earlier.

They last played in 2001 with BORO winning 26-6, also in Round 1 of the playoffs.

Haddon Heights' games this year:

beat Lindenwold 24-20

beat Collingswood 17-2

lost to Woodbury 18-0

lost to Paulsboro 35-7

lost to West Deptford 35-6

lost to Audubon 21-20 OT

beat Sterling 7-0

beat Haddon Twp. 30-0

All the teams that beat them made the playoffs.

None of the teams they beat made the playoffs.

I would like to see THE BORO surpass Paulsboro's and West Deptford's scoring margin against Haddon Heights and they should be able to do it.

Glassboro 33, Penns Grove 0

BORO had 466 yards of offense compared to just 77 for PG.
5 players scored TDs:
J. Breaker - 3 yd run + 2 TD passes
Tunstall - 7 yd reception = 3 extra point kicks
Whitaker - 38 yd recption

The tream looked strong and if they had avoided turnovers, the back-ups would have been in the game early in the second half if not sooner.

Glassboro vs Penns Grove - Friday November 2nd - 7:00 pm

Penns Grove is 7-1 (6-1 in conference) and seeks a tie for the Division Championship,

BORO is 22-6-3 against Penns Grove and has won last 10 games and 13 out of 14 since renweing the series in 1987 (no games in "89, '90, '91 and '92).

In the '50's BORO won 3, PG won 3 and there were 3 ties.

PG this year:

Penns Grove 14, Woodstown 7 - closest non-win for Woodstown

Gloucester 22, PG 21 - closest game for both teams

PG 37, Salem 20 - other than Pitman and Clayton, only time Salem scored more than 6

PG 20, Schalick 0 - PG's best game

PG 64, Pitman 0 - same score as Glassboro vs Pitman

PG 40, Clayton 0 - Glassboro beat Clayton by 54

PG 12, Overbrook 9 - lowest score aginst Overbrook and most points scored by Overbrook

Penns Grove has plenty of speed, but probably doesn't have enough defense to stop THE BORO.

I predict BORO 33, PG 14.
