2011 Glassboro 34, Deptford 13

I decided to break the jinx.  If I go in the visiting satnds at away games, we lose.

So I went into the stands.  Immediately Deptford takes the lead.  I am not worried.  Corey takes over and blows them away.

2nd team played 2nd half against their first team.  This was good experience.

2011 Glassboro 28, Haddon Heights 14 - playoffs round 2

Boro improves again.  HH tries a little hurry up and fails.

Deptford game will be a sleeper.

Heading to the finals!

Need new calculator to keep track of Corey's yards!

2011 Glassboro 28, Salem 8 - playoffs round 1

Corey Clement scoed all 4 TDs and now is in 2nd place  for Glassboro single season and career rushing yards.

Haddon Heights next week!  They will be tough!

2011 Glassboro 35, Camden 0

Camden did not have the zip on their passing attck that PV had last week and Glassboro took advantage with several sacks.

4 different players scored with Clements scoriung twice.

#5 was outstanding and had 3 really big plays!!!

Salem next week - rematches can be scarry and we can't overlook them (or anyone else) - one game plan at a time!!

2011 Pennsville 55, Glassboro 35

A wild game with Glassboro taking a 20-7 lead before PV scored 5 straight TDs.

Corey Clement had another big day.

PVs hurry up offense is tough to defend.

BORO can still grab 2nd seed which perhaps is an easier road than 1st seed.  Probably Woodbury followed by Haddon Heights.

2011 Glassboro 19, Schalick 12

Perhaps it  was the distraction of Homecoming or perhaps looking ahead to Pennsville, but the BORO could have done better against this team.

Schalick kept 8 in the box to try to contain Corey Clement, so the BORO went to the air.  This team is becoming more multi-dimensional!

THIS TEAM CAN WIN IT ALL!!!!!!!!

Just play one game at a time.  Do not look ahead!

Nice article in newspaper about putting the first game behind.

2011 Glassboro 27, Woodstown 6

Corey Clement has been amazing and racked up another 200+ yard game.

Passing game looking better!

With win over Schalick for Homecoming in 2 weeks, BORO will have share of Division crown!

Team has theme of "backs against the wall" and has really responded to the adversity of game 1.

Win next 3 games and claim #1 seed!!!!

2011 Glassboro 52, Pitman 0

Corey Clement ran all over Pitman!

Good win over weak team.  Get ready for tough team next week!

Saturday, September 24, 2011

2011 Glassboro 40, Gloucester 20

BORO ran off 40 straight points after Gloucester took early 7-0 lead.  Very impressed by the 40 point run both on offense and defense.

Team overcoming the adversity of first defeat very well.

If BORO wins 7 in a row and PG loses to Red Lion, assuning neither Paulsboro or Woodbury can beat West deptford or Haddonfield:

BORO gets #1 seed

PG gets 2nd seed

PV gets 3rd seed

Woodbury gets 4th seed with 3 losses!

Paulsboro gets 5th seed with just one loss (Haddonfield) despite having beat Woodbury

So first seed is very possible - just win one game at a time!

2011 Glassboro 14, Salem 0

Not as big as the usual margin, but a step forward for the team.

Defense was outstanding!

Offense seemed to be concentrating on not making mistakes which is what they needed to do.

Overall a good job of overcoming the adversity of the previous week.

Since Paulsboro beat Woodbury, Paulsboro has a good shot at going undefeated in the first 8 games.  We have to look towards 2nd seed.  1st or 2nd seeds are just as good as the final will now be played on a neutral field.  Basically keep winning and everything will fall into place.  I think that PG will lose to Red Lion and Woodbury will lose to WD, so basically win 7 in a row and we have 2nd seed!  I'll do the math for next week's post.

This week's goal should be to shut down Gloucester and try to increase the scoring.  I would like to see 4 TDs (but I am greedy).  4 TDs is usually enough to beat Gloucester even in their better years.

Then have a nice time in Pitman working on stuff before facing an improved Woodstown team which gave Pennsville all it could handle.

Then a bye week to get ready for Schalick, Pennsville and Camden!

Remember that photos are on Facebook although I will be changing the ones on here soon.

2011 PG 54, BORO 0

"Disaster at Penns Grove" will be the name for this game.  The worst defeat since 1914.

PG was ready and looking to avenge last year's defeat and to avenge their suspension from the playoffs.  A team with a mission.  Meanwhile our BORO was not ready as was evident in the scrimmages.  4 fumbles led to 4 scores.  Kudos to the Grove.  They are an excellent team.

Our BORO can arise from this adversity.  If we win the next 7, we have a shot at home field for the playoffs.  PG has a tough out-of-state opponent.  If Woodbury beats Paulsboro and West Deptford beats Woodbury, then all will have one loss (assuming we beat Pennsville).  Our schedule strength gives us the advantage.

2010 Glassboro 35, Paulsboro 0 - Group 1 Final

What a great end to a season full of adversity.  The finally healthy BULLDOGS romp to their 3rd Group 1 Championship in 4 years.  Everyone was outstanding!

Paul James was the big star, but many others had great days!

2010 Glassboro 19, Deptford 7

19-0 at the half

BORO playing on short rest and thinking ahead and Deptford playing on long rest and finishing season.

2010 - Glassboro 27, Pennsville 21 - 2 OTs - Playoffs round 2

One of the greatest games ever:

BORO scores first, but PV then runs off 21 points for a 21-7 halftime lead.

BORO scores, but misses kick to make it 21-13.

In 4th, BORO scores and makes the 2 pointer to tie it up.

PV penetrates deep into BORO territory, but an interception on 4th down ends their drive.

BORO falls inches short in first OT and intercepts PV

BORO intercepts PV again in second OT and then scores to win game.

A very exciting game with over 1000 in attendance.

2010 Glassboro 40, Gloucester 6 - playoffs round 1

Gloucester led 6-0 and then it was all BORO!!

2010 Camden 9, Glassboro 7

I seldom criticize the coach as he is a fine man whom I really like, but punt instead of going for it on 4th and you win this game.

This year I have seen a major tendency for teams to go for it on 4th in their own territory, even as early as the 1st quarter. It seems to work a lot, but it goes against traditional football wisdom.  There is a team in Texas or Oklahoma (or somewhere around there) that always goes for it on 4th.

2010 Glassboro 33, Salem 0

Homecoming game and the alumni appreciated the win.

Salem got close, but each time the Bulldog defense stepped up and stopped them.  A TEAM win!

2010: Pennsville 21, Glassboro 12

First time PV has beaten Glassboro (10 tries).

PV is Classic Champ and Glassboro is Diamond Champ and both divisons are old Tri-county only, so this was the unofficial Tri-County Group 1 Championship.

Several Glassboro players hurt during game.

Glassboro still maintains first seed if they beat Camden and possibly even if they lose.

PV can be 2nd or 3rd seed but is seeded behinD Glassboro regardless.

Saturday, September 25, 2010

2010: Glassboro 55, Gloucester 22

Gloucester did fine considering what happened the week before.

Paul James had 3 scores even though at first it looked like he might sit out the game.

2010: BORO 47, Schalick 7

BORO jumped out early to a quick 20-0 lead and then lost steam for a moment and let Schalick score, but in all fairness Schalick has a few good players and you can't expcect to shut them out.

Scoring (PJ did not play):

BORO: C. James - 56 yd reception form S. Clement (C. Clement kick)

BORO: C. Clement - 37 yd. run (and also kick)

BORO: C. Clement - 40 yd. run (missed kick)

Schalick: Goldsboro - 9 yd. reception form D. Johnson (Melnicove kick)

BORO: L. Smith - 56 yd reception from S. Clement (C. James reception from S. Clement)

BORO: C. Clement - 20 yd. run (missed kick)

BORO: Burt - 26 yd. run (C. Clement kick)

BORO: C. Smith - 6 yd. run (missed kick)

2010 - Glassboro 13, Penns Grove 12

A great game and if you didn't go to thegame, you were a fool.

PJ James scores 2 TDs and an extra point kick by Corey Clement made the difference as THE BORO blocked and extra point kick and botht tems failed on attempts to go for 2.

PG scored first in each half and THE BORO followed.

PG - nice reception and run for 76 yds. by Malcolm Chase - Nick Elmer is a very good QB and shows plenty of confidence as a sophomore. Some of his passes should have been caught and if so, the game result would be different.

BORO - a steady long drive ending with a 5 yd. TD by PJ James - this was the best drive of the game as THE BORO showed an ability to grind it out on the ground with one surprise pass for a nice gain. This is the model of how they should play. The shotgun was not working, so grind it out with great running backs.

PG - another big play score as jay Brown ran for 43 yds on a great run - once he got in the open, he was gone!

BORO - PJ James answers with his own big play running down the field for 59 yds and a great effort at the end to make it into the end zone as he should have gone down at the 3!

Overall our running backs were great and the line performed better than expected. The pass coverage needs some work, but made some great plays.

Can't let down after big game!!! Time for a new streak!!!!!!!

2009 - Glassboro 42, Deptford 6

Deptford scored first and then the Bulldogs woke up.

Worked hard at getting Kahil Adams a TD in his final game.

BORO 3-0 against Group 3 teams.

2009: Paulsboro 35, Glassboro 0 - playoffs

OUCH!

Paulsboro's best game in 3 yaears and Glassboro's worst game in 3 years

BORO needs to spread the ball around to more backs next year like they did in 2007 and 2008.

Sunday, November 15, 2009

Glassboro 35, Palmyra 0 - playoffs

0-0 at the half

PJ James - 121 rushing yards -2 rushing TDs and 1 TD reception

Richard Willis and Kahil Adams scored the other TDs.

Complete stats are on the highschoolsports.net web site.

This game was the final wake-up call after sleep walking through 2 1/2 games.

Paulsboro is next! Be ready!

2009 - Glassboro 14, Kingsway 13

With some key players resting, Glassboro almost let this one get away.

Missed extra point was the key to the win.

Kingsway has a huge line and gave our line a big test. Hopefully this was be a good game for preparing for playoffs.

2009 - Penns Grove 14, Glassboro 12

PG had a great game plan and BORO mistakes cost us the game.

Too many injuries!

Learn form this and move on to revenge in the playoffs!!

But don't look ahead and just go one game at a time - the target is still on your back!

2009 - Glassboro 42, Pennsville 0

A good win and the shutout is a major accomplishment.

PV did not expect to win but they expected to score 21!

2009 - Glassboro 29, Cumberland 7

More photos on "BORO70" Facebook page.

Scoreless first quarter as Cumberland atarted out with a strong drive ending with a missed FG. Then the BORO defense came alive although Cumberland still had some good plays.

PJ James ran for a lot of yards - I will post stats later.

PLAYERS: pay attention!!!!!! Play one game at a time. Parents were telling me that you are already thinking about Kingsway. This is foolishness!!! ONE GAME at a time please. You have a target on your back. Everyone wants to end the streak. Every game is a Super Bowl until the streak ends (hopefully not in my lifetime). Think about Gloucester and no one else. Gloucester has destroyed our dreams before - playoffs in 2004, 2001, 1995 plus they were our only divsion loss in 1998 and 1997! You have two weeks to think about nothing but Gloucester! Their fans will harass you and call you names and cheer if you get injured! You must be prepared. They have scouted all of our games. Their line will be well trained and they will save some tricks just for this game. Teams that don't like us despise Gloucester more. They know how to get to you. You cannot let up just because of what happened to them at Schalick. They were looking ahead to us.

2009 - Game #3 preview: Glassboro vs Cumberland: Friday Sept. 25th - 7:00 pm - home

Cumberland is slumping after having a decent season last year when they made it to the Group 3 playoffs only to lose to Group runner-up Hammonton. All four loses were to powerful teams: Tri-County Royal champion Williamstown, Group 2 Champion Delsea, Non-Public palyoff contender and perhaps the best Non-Public in South Jersey last year, Gloucester Catholic, and Hammonton.

In 2007, Cumberland was 7-3, losing to Williamstown, Clearview and Shawnee (which won Group 3 in 2007 & 2008).

In 2006, they were 1-9 and are in danger of going back to that record this year.

They have lost this year to powerful Delsea 35-0 and a possibly improved highland team 17-3. The loss to highland is very revealing and indicative of a downturn in the program, but they are a Group 3 school and the Bulldogs must not take them lightly.

Although the power points system has changed and beating a team from a bigger group does not gain you as many points, it is still very important that the Dogs beat their 2 Group 3 and 1 Group 2 opponents. (They also have another Group 2 opponent after the playoffs cut-off.) Keeping power points in mind, we would like for Cumberalnd to do better against other opponents. The loss to Highland cost us an anticipated point. At this point only Deptford looks a possible victory and that is not guaranteed.

Looking at power points:

You get 6 points for a win + one point for the Group number of the opponent (Group 3 Cumberland will give us 6 for the win and 3 for the group for 9 points)

You get 3 points for each win by a team you defeated (so if Cumberland does not win a game, we gain 0 for this criteria.

So:

Salem, Schalick, PG, PV, Woodstown and Gloucester have 11 games against each other which (assuming that the Bulldogs win) yields (5 x 6) + (11 x 3) for 63 points.

These teams have 12 games against Pitman, Clayton and Wildwood, which assuming they all win those games, would give us (12 x 3) 36 points which increses the total to 99 points.

A minimum of 9 points for beating Cumberlannd would then give us 108 points

Kingsway gives us a minimum of 12 as they already have one win which now gives us 120
points.

PG beat Clearview and PV beat Deptford so 6 more points gives us 126.

For more points, we need Kingsway to win some games - most likely against Cumberland and Deptford. We need Gloucester to beat Highland (tough call at this point). Pennsville plays Middle Twp. and they should win. PG plays Buena and it is a tough call but Buena won last year.

So, I anticipate at least 3 wins from those match-ups for 9 more points for a total of 135.

Now what about Paulsboro?

8 wins against 6 Group 1 teams and 2 Group 2 teams, gives them (8 x 6) + (6 x 1) + (2 x 2) = 58.

Their opponents play each other 16 times for (3 x 16) 48 more points = 106.

Their opponents have 12 games aginst West Deptford and Haddonfield which they should not win.

Their opponents have 6 games against Overbrook which they should win for (6 x 3) 18 more points = 124 total for Paulsboro.

If I goofed in these calculations, respond by hitting "comments" at the bottom of this post.

With an 11 point anticipated advantage, Glassboro could lose to Cumberland (and lose 9 points), but loses to other teams could hurt.

2009 - Game #2: Glassboro 38, Schalick 0

Glassboro extended their longest win streak in history to 26 in a row.

Although Schalick was frequently in BORO territory, they could not score against the aggressive Bulldog defense.

PJ James had 3 TDs - two on offense and one on defense.

Stephen Clement had a 62 yd. TD reception from Brandon Stephens (Stephens to Stephen).

Corey Clement scored a TD for the second game in a row with a 19 yd. run.

Lamont Smith scored a TD for the second game in a row with a 49 yd, interception return giving the defense 2 interception returns for TDs in the game.

Some photos coming soon!

PJ James has established himself as the primary runner with 82 yds. on 7 carries.

Brandon Stephens passed 6 out 8 for 99 yds.

I would like to see some improvement in the push of the offensive line and some better DB coverage. Otherwise I am very happy with this team. A little more speed getting down field on kickoffs would also be nice.

Some photos coming soon! Go to Facebook and search for BORO70 and you will find photos.

2009 - Game #1: Glassboro 35, Salem 12

Go to Facebook and search for BORO70 and you will find more photos.
Salem played better than in past couple of years. Defense made some nice plays and two excellent passr eceptions gave them their two scores.

BORO scored first on a 56 yard run by PJ James for 17-0 lead at the end of the 1st.

A one yard run by QB Brandon Stephens and a 14 yd. reception by Lamont Smith gave the Bulldogs a 21 -0 lead before Salem scored on a 68 yd. reception from Dylan Rush to Shaquille Brooks to go in at the half with a 21-6 lead for the BORO.

Freshman Corey Clement (who also does the kicking) showed that the BORO keeps bringing up young RBs with a 13 yd. TD run in the third while Salem answered back with another TD reception from Rush to Brooks, this time for 82 yds. At the end of the third, BORO led 28-12.

BORO finished out the scoring in the 4th with a run from the dependable Kahil Adams for a 6 yd. TD.
